American School Library serves KAS students, faculty,
staff and parents. The library collection is designed to
support the curriculum, inspire critical thinking,
provide reading for enjoyment and encourage life-long
learning.
The library sponsors several special events throughout
the year, such as Celebrate Reading week and the Poetry
Spring Fling. The library offers training for middle
school, high school, and parent volunteers.
The library follows a combination fixed and flexible
schedule. Information literacy is integrated into the
core subjects while following the American Association
of School Librarians' Standards for the 21st Century
Learner:
Learners
use skills, resources, and tools to
1.
Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.
2. Draw conclusions, make informed decisions,
apply knowledge to new situations, and create
new knowledge.
3. Share knowledge and participate ethically and
productively as members of our democratic
society.
4. Pursue personal and aesthetic growth.
Parents are invited to visit the library before and
after school. Volunteers are always welcome! Please
contact the librarian at
mcavender@krtams.org if you would like to
volunteer.
